Every year our team looks forward to spring, but this year is going to be extra special. Baseball returns to Fifth Third Field and we cannot wait! Yes, it is going to look a bit different, and that’s ok. Welcoming you and the team back is a great start. A lot is happening, and we wanted to update you on where we are at and what you can expect in the next few months leading up to Opening Day.
When does the 2021 season start?
The Mud Hens were one of the 120 teams invited to be part of Major League Baseball’s new minor league system. Toledo will remain as the Detroit Tigers’ Triple-A affiliate. Right now, MLB is working on Minor League schedules and we hope to release the full schedule in mid-February. As our new relationship with MLB takes shape, we will continue to share exciting updates.
How many fans can attend games?
When baseball resumes in April, Fifth Third Field will be open to a limited number of fans as we follow the latest safety protocols. That number currently stands at 1,500 people. We continue to work with our local and state officials on venue capacity requirements with the hope that as the season progresses that number may become closer to normal.
What are some of the temporary changes fans can expect in 2021?
As we continue to work on our plan, we can identify items such as face masks, socially distanced seating, and specific entrances as necessary temporary changes. Our commitment is to open our ballpark in the cleanest and safest way possible to fans this season. You will receive specific information about the temporary 2021 changes in the coming weeks.
As we said earlier, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you back to Fifth Third Field and we want your game day experience to be the best and safest ever.
